Film adaptation of “Eternal Champions” in the works

In the early 90s, Mortal Kombat turned the entire gaming industry upside down. It was The The game was on everyone’s lips, which of course meant that plenty of other developers would be vying to capitalize on it. One of the more interesting and notable games that was clearly inspired by Mortal Kombat was Eternal Champions, which appeared on SEGA Genesis and SEGA CD before delighting Nintendo fans years later on the Wii Virtual Console.

While there are undoubtedly gamers who remember Eternal Champions, it’s not like it left a lasting legacy in the gaming industry. Aside from re-releases, the franchise has remained pretty much dormant since its original release, which is why it’s incredibly surprising that the fighter is coming to the big screen anytime soon.

SEGA and Skydance are apparently teaming up for an Eternal Champions movie, and Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly will be handling it. It’s a live-action adaptation that will be produced by Toru Nakahara, the same man who oversees the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. Other than that, absolutely no other details have been revealed about this project.

We’ll be on the lookout for more news on the Eternal Champions movie. Until then, you can bet whether or not this movie will actually hit theaters!
