FEMA calls may come from unknown phone numbers | News, Sports, Jobs

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After Florida residents apply for disaster assistance, FEMA may call them to schedule an inspection of the damaged home or to obtain additional information to process the application. These calls may come from unknown area codes or phone numbers.

It’s important to answer the call. A FEMA inspection may be required to determine if a home is safe, sanitary, functional, and accessible. Failure to schedule an inspection may result in a delay in FEMA reviewing the application.

FEMA specialists may call to obtain additional information about the processing of an application or contact applicants who have started but not completed an application.

The fastest way to apply for assistance from FEMA is online at DisasterAssistance.gov. You can also apply through the FEMA mobile app or call toll-free 800-621-3362. The phone line is open daily and assistance is available in most languages. If you use a relay service such as VRS, a closed-captioned phone service, or others, give FEMA your number for that service. For an accessible video on how to apply, see Three Ways to Apply for Disaster Assistance from FEMA – YouTube. The application deadline is October 9, 2024.
