Felon attempted to shoot gun in bar near Antioch – Shaw Local

ANTIOCH – Lake County Sheriff’s officials arrested a felon on Aug. 16 after he allegedly attempted to shoot at bar security.

On August 16 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a call at a bar in the 27800 block of West Grass Lake Road in Antioch Township where a man with a gun was reported, according to a news release. Lake County Sheriff’s Office telecommunications operators were able to obtain a detailed description of the two men from the 911 caller. Officers arrived and were quickly able to locate and arrest the two men.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Ronald X. Owens Jr., 37, of 2800 Street at Buckingham Drive, Lisle, and Edwin Roddy, 42, of 700 Street at Mill Court, Waukegan, were previously ejected from the bar by security for disturbing the peace, the release said.

After being taken away, Owens and Roddy went to a car in the parking lot and returned to confront security guards. According to police, Owens, now armed with a firearm, pointed the gun at security guards and pulled the trigger several times, but the gun malfunctioned and did not fire.

The two then went back to a vehicle and met up with the others they had originally come with, the release states. It is believed Owens put the gun back in the car and the others remained in the car.

Owens and Roddy returned to the bar again and attempted to get in, but were again stopped by security. Roddy then allegedly punched one of the security guards. Both were quickly tracked down and arrested by sheriff’s officers.

Owens was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon (Class 3 felony), two counts of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon (Class 4 felony), and failure to possess a FOID/CCL (Class 4 felony).

Roddy was charged with assault.

The Lake County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion to remand Owens in custody. He was scheduled to appear in court Saturday morning.

Roddy’s case was processed and he was released with a court date of September 4th.
