FBI raids government IT and cyber contractor Carahsoft

The FBI searched the headquarters of IT, software and cybersecurity services provider Carahsoft Technology Corp. in Reston, Virginia, on Tuesday, two people familiar with the matter said.

The raid took place sometime on Tuesday morning, said one of the people, who wished to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the matter.

“We can confirm that the FBI conducted court-authorized law enforcement actions on Sunset Hills Road this morning. We would like to have no further comment,” an FBI spokesperson said in a statement.

Carahsoft is a private provider of IT services and software to the public sector. According to GovTribe, a federal market research platform owned by Carahsoft, the company has signed billions of dollars’ worth of contracts with agencies such as the Social Security Administration, Securities and Exchange Commission and Treasury Department. Nextgov/FCW Parent company GovExec.

Carahsoft CEO Craig Abod and a company spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Several notes and pictures of the alleged raid were posted on a Reddit channel allegedly used by company employees. Nextgov/FCW could not immediately verify the content of the images, although one of them appeared to show a group of uniformed FBI agents walking through the office. Another image, released separately by Nextgov/FCW shows a trio of uniformed FBI agents entering the entrance of a building.
