You don’t often hear about revenge games for tight ends, but this seems like the perfect place for it.

Mike Gesicki has recorded at least 570 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons with the Miami Dolphins, but last season he spent a year in New England where he caught only 29 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns.

Although the Patriots were one of the stingiest defenses against tight ends in 2023, they could see Gesicki as a wide receiver on the perimeter.

Even if the Cincinnati Bengals extend star wideout Ja’Marr Chase’s contract just days before the season opener, he may not be in shape for a full workload after missing several practices. If Chase is unavailable, Gesicki could be Cincinnati’s second-best pass catcher behind Tee Higgins.

The Bengals signed Gesicki knowing he was a below-average tight end. But they also know he can catch the ball. With Chase’s status uncertain, Gesicki could be a big factor against his former team.
