A new era has begun in one of the best game shows of all timewhen Ryan Seacrest made his official debut as the new host of Wheel of Fortune on September 9. Season 42 was broadcast on TV schedule 2024 on Monday without Pat Sajak, who retired at the end of last season. As expected, wheel Viewers had some strong opinions about the big changes since June, but surprisingly the new presenter was not the main point of contention among viewers.

Since Ryan Seacrest was appointed as successor to one of the the best game show hosts ever in Pat Sajak, fans could not hold back their strong opinions — whether it was enthusiasm for what the American Idol host would bring Wheel of Fortune or fear of the inevitable changes. That didn’t change on September 9, but when people on social media voiced their thoughts on Seacrest’s debut, the host wasn’t the target of their complaints – it was the new set. As one fan on X (Twitter):

Ryan has to get used to this new set 😭 Everything is so computer generated and bright.

In fact, many fans had similar thoughts and posted positive messages about Ryan Seacrest on his first night on Wheel of Fortunebut expressed his frustration with the garish, overstimulating set. Other contributions included:

  • I love that Ryan is hosting Wheel of Fortune, but I hate the other changes they made to the show. – Megz_Friedos

  • I understand that Wheel of Fortune replaced Pat Sajak because he retired, but why did they have to change the entire set?! – SimchaG

  • So, Wheel of Fortune is fucking OVER. The new set sucks… I thought I was going to hate Ryan Seacrest, but he’s actually the least offensive thing about this show. – Syd_Lexia

  • The show started off great, but the set had a very strong “Early Test Pilot” feel to it. – hbsacramento

  • I LOVED Pat EVERYWHERE, he was perfect‼️ I’m so relieved to say Ryan is doing a great job on his first night! I don’t like the new set and the graphics that put the contestants’ faces under the puzzle at all. Of course I love that Vanna is still here‼️ – stick to the truth

  • Ok dear Ryan Seacrest…HATE the new set 🤦🏻‍♀️😢 Wheel of Fortune, bring back the old set because that’s not it. – sherryjohnston

There were rumors during Wheel of Fortune‘s off-season, the Ryan Seacrest’s height caused problems with the new set design, as he is 2 inches shorter than Pat Sajak. However, that didn’t seem to be the cause of fans’ concern on Monday. Some wished that small changes had been made over time after the host change, rather than shocking viewers with sensory issues.

Of course, Ryan Seacrest could not convince everyone, but overall it seemed as if the fans could finally breathe a sigh of relief after seeing what Wheel of FortuneThe future looks like this. The set will remain, but I imagine that things will only get better for Seacrest from now on as he becomes more comfortable. The same goes for the fans.
