Fans furious after flops in Detroit

TikToker expresses disappointment over Detroit Bridgerton Ball event

Bridgerton fans are furious after an unofficial ball in Detroit based on the Netflix series fell far short of expectations.

Sunday’s event was set to be a glamorous affair with ballroom dancing and music, similar to that enjoyed by members of Regency high society on the hit series.

But since then, the story has spread like wildfire on social media, with attendees complaining that it was a “rip-off” with cheap furnishings, undercooked food and only a stripper for entertainment.

Event organizers, Uncle & Me LLC, did not respond to the BBC’s request for comment but told a local media outlet they were working to address concerns.

The event was not sponsored by or associated with Netflix or the production company Shondaland.

The advertisement for the event invited fans to “immerse themselves in the enchanting world of the Regency era at the Detroit Bridgerton Ball.”

“Join us for an evening of sophistication, grace and historic charm. Experience a night like no other filled with music, dancing and exquisite costumes,” it said.

But now fans are demanding a refund with photos and videos circulating on social media shows women in their finest outfits sitting on the floor and scrolling on their phones.

“This is on par with the Fyre Festival scam,” one wrote on Facebook, referring to another infamous failed venture.

“I’ve seen kids’ parties that looked better. It was bare and ugly,” wrote another, who said most people left by 9 p.m.

Screenshots of online tickets showed prices starting at around $150, but others spent more on the “Duke and Duchess” package, which included dinner.

However, the food was criticized by guests, with one saying it was “terrible” and others saying it was still raw.

Meanwhile, the entertainment program was also disappointing: although guests were promised that there would be a full orchestra, there was only one violinist.

There was also a stripper on the pole, which made some fans wonder what this has to do with Bridgerton.

“They hired a stripper and promised us an instrumental performance,” wrote a TikTok user.

Another disappointed TikTokker posted a picture of the outfit She says she was “drunk” at the event.

“I was ready to be Diamond of the Season. I left early,” she said.

In an interview Speaking to local news channel WXYZ-TV, Detroit acrobat Tink said she was hired as a pole dancer just three hours before the event.

“I just feel very sorry for all the guests who came to the event because my goal as an artist is to bring joy and cheer to everyone,” she said.

“It just kind of depressed me to know that everyone was so unhappy with the result.”

On social media, people quickly noticed the similarities to other viral flops, including the Fyre Festival in the Bahamas and the Willy Wonka experience in Glasgowin which a handful of embarrassed actors tried to make the best of sad-looking props and a bouncy castle.

In a statement to WXYZ-TV, Uncle & Me LLC said: “We understand that not everyone had the experience they hoped for at our recent event on Sunday night at the Harmonie Club and we sincerely apologize for that.”

“Our intention was to provide a magical evening, but we recognize that organizational challenges impacted the enjoyment of some guests. We take full responsibility and accountability for these shortcomings.”

The company said it is working to address all concerns raised by guests, adding: “We are exploring possible solutions that will be communicated shortly.”
