Fans angry about royal disaster at the “Bridgerton” ball in Detroit

(CBS) – Visitors to the “Bridgerton” ball at the Harmonie Club in Detroit, which was postponed to Sunday evening, are venting their frustration on the Internet and claiming that the event did not meet their expectations.

Fans of the television series “Bridgerton” have already expressed their frustration when the event was postponed from August to last Sunday after the original venue, Castle Hall, terminated its contract with the organizers due to safety concerns. Those who attended the event at the Harmonie Club over the weekend called it a “royal disaster.”

The event was originally planned for 3,000 guests, with tickets costing between $150 and $1,000. Since they were not given a refund, many of them, albeit reluctantly, attended the postponed event anyway.

“We didn’t get an email saying the event was canceled, so we actually showed up in fancy clothes and all the trimmings,” said Seana Schade, who attended the ball.

Schade said she only stayed for about an hour after seeing the reality of the event.

“Simply because it was too hot and we obviously wouldn’t get anything to eat or drink,” she said.

Another participant posted her immediate reaction on TikTok after the “ball” turned out to be a “bust.”

“Are we at a club or a ball?” asked Nita Morton in her TikTok post.

Guests were promised live music, elegant backdrops and an immersion into the world of “Bridgerton”.

“That was the only person playing live music,” Morton said, showing a video of a lone violinist. “There were three floors – three floors. I saw her maybe twice in the whole time.”

“Doesn’t this look like something your cousin had at her baby shower that she quickly picked up at Family Dollar? Exactly.

“The caterers, look what they have there. And not to mention, these aren’t even the caterers. I don’t know where the caterers are.”

To her disappointment, Morton said she spent an additional $600 on hair, makeup and her outfit.

“People have spent hundreds of dollars, not only on their tickets, but on maintenance and making themselves look good for this ball,” Morton said.

Morton said her requests for refunds went unanswered because the event organizer, Uncle N Me LLC, stuck to its strict no-refund policy. She says she probably could have gotten into the venue without a refund.

“They didn’t check my ticket,” she said. “They didn’t check tickets. They let anyone in. I’d rather keep all my money and throw it away myself.”

Morton estimates that about half of the original 3,000 guests came, but as in Schade’s case, many left quickly after they realized what they had really gotten themselves into.

CBS News Detroit has reached out to Uncle N Me LLC and is awaiting a response.
