Luke and Hailey Vinsko had just returned from their first trip together since the birth of their twins when the unimaginable happened.

We were putting the golf clubs in his trunk, had dinner in hand and were getting ready to go in the house and see the boys and she put the gas on and hit him and trapped him… and then she backed up, hit another car, then came back and hit my car and crashed into him. That’s the car he was under. She ripped the garage door off its hinges and when I tried to reach into her car to turn it off, she laughed in my face and then put the car in reverse and drove the red car through her garage,” Hailey Vinsko said.

Hailey’s mother, who rushed to help, said the woman also laughed at her.

I had a few words ready. Of course I won’t say them, but she laughed at me,” said Tammy Osborn, Hailey’s mother. “This is her house. You are supposed to be safe and protected here.”

Hailey said they did not recognize the woman who ran amok in her car.

“We’ve never seen her in our entire lives. I have no idea who she is. I don’t know, she was just down the street and we were the people who were on the street. We were the first people she saw when she got in her car. So we’re in the wrong place, at the wrong time, in our own house,” she said.

The family said they are working to stay positive despite the challenges that lie ahead after Luke had to have part of his leg amputated.

“He’s still in the ICU. His condition is stable. Today they’re giving him another blood transfusion. He’s very sleepy, but he remains positive and we’re taking it one day at a time,” Hailey said.

The suspect’s name is not being released. Police say she was found sitting in her vehicle at the scene of the crash. She is expected to be arraigned in 18th District Court following a review of the case by the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office.

According to police, alcohol and drugs appear to have played a role in the incident.

My husband lost his right leg. His left foot is broken. He has to learn to walk again. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to work again. We have two-month-old twin sons, and we’re trying to figure out how to take care of him. It’s going to be a very long road, but he and I have always been a team and always will be. And we know as long as we have each other, we’ll get through it. I’m just living one day at a time,” Hailey said.

The case is still under investigation.
