Family of six left homeless after fallen tree damages their house; DMV reports heavy rain and wind

A family of six is ​​homeless after a tree fell and damaged a home in Potomac, Maryland, Thursday evening, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Emergency Services.

Emergency services said the incident occurred at around 9.24pm in the area of ​​Ivymount Terrace and Seven Locks Road. The house had structural damage and power lines were reportedly down.

When rescue workers arrived on the scene, they found that four adults and two children had escaped from the house unharmed.

This comes while a tornado warning is in effect for the DMV overnight Thursday into Friday as remnants of Tropical Storm Debby bring heavy rains and winds to the region.

Several tornado warnings were issued in the Northern Virginia region on Thursday night.

In Montgomery County, a drone pilot captured slow-moving clouds and heavy rain in the evening.

At around 9:30 p.m., Montgomery County emergency officials reported that another fallen tree had damaged a row house, this time in Montgomery Village.

The incident occurred in the 19600 block of Enterprise Way near Stedwick Road. No injuries were reported, but the home had structural damage, officials said.

7News spoke to homeowner Jorge Gomez hours after the incident.

“I was taking a nap on the couch when I heard my wife screaming. When I woke up, all the glass shattered on my floor,” Gomez said. “It surprised and shocked me.”

Additionally, a flood warning has been issued for areas along and west of the I-95 corridor from 8:00 p.m. Thursday through 8:00 p.m. Friday.
