Fallen pine tree damages vehicles and blocks road in Miami

MIAMI – A large pine tree fell in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood on Friday, damaging a Tesla and a white truck.

Jose Paonessa said the damage to the truck made it a “total loss.” He had parked it near the tree while helping his brother move.

“There was a gust of wind that knocked it over,” Paonessa said.

According to Officer Kiara Delva, a spokeswoman for the Miami Police Department, police officers, firefighters and road maintenance workers were on duty.

The damaged vehicles and the remains of the tree briefly blocked Northeast 27th Street near Biscayne Boulevard and Biscayne Bay.

When neighbor Christopher Ortega returned home, he found a mess and told Local 10 News the homeowner was in contact with the city to discuss the future of the other tree and whether it posed a danger to the neighborhood.

“What happens if this tree falls too, what happens if a gust of wind blows it towards the house? I don’t want to sleep, and while I’m sleeping, a huge tree comes and crushes me while I’m in bed,” Ortega said. “The homeowner is trying to figure out what will happen next and if the tree will fall.”

Paonessa was worried about another tree nearby that was unstable. It was leaning.

“If something like this happens again, someone’s life could be in danger,” Paonessa said.
