A Palm Springs man who apparently died in hospital after a stabbing once appeared on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” as well as other reality shows and telenovelas.

Eduardo Xol, 58, of Palm Springs, appeared in 65 episodes of the ABC television series from 2005 to 2012, according to online entertainment database IMDB. The website lists Xol as the show’s designer and as an actor appearing as himself in a dozen other shows from 2005 to 2012. Earlier in his career, Xol appeared in telenovelas such as “Acapulco, cuerpo y alma” and “La jaula de oro.”

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our beloved Eduardo Xol,” his family said in a statement to The Desert Sun. “As his family, we know his kindness touched the lives of so many. We ask that this kindness be reciprocated now so that our privacy is respected as we process our grief. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Eduardo’s name to the Lupus Foundation of America, as he spent so much of his life serving others.”

The tabloid TMZ first reported on Xol’s connection to the entertainment industry early Wednesday morning and stated that Xol’s mother had confirmed his death to the newspaper.

“It’s almost unbelievable that I’m writing this post to say goodbye to someone who was so present and so important in my life,” wrote Richard Perez-Feria, former editor-in-chief of People en Español, on Instagram. “When I first learned that Eduardo Xol had died, I was numb. It didn’t fit with my thousands of experiences with him.”

He added that Xol was a “talented, wonderful, passionate friend, brother, son and partner.”

According to the Riverside County Coroner, Xol died at Desert Regional Medical Center at 12:19 a.m. Friday. He was injured at 5:41 a.m. Sept. 10, the same time Palm Springs police received a report of an injured man.

Officers responded to the 911 call from the 400 block of East Arenas Road and found a man with significant injuries inside an apartment who told them he had been stabbed but could not identify the attacker, police said in a news release.

Officers later arrested Richard Joseph Gonzales, 34, of Cathedral City, after he called police and claimed he had been attacked the previous night. Gonzales was initially booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of attempted murder.

After Xol’s death, police requested that he be charged with murder. He was held without bail.
