In May 2018, two men were electrocuted in a drilling accident near the Ray Nixon Power Plant. According to earlier reporting by the Gazette, a drilling rig struck a power line.
Officials with Colorado Springs Utilities said in 2018 that the two were taking soil samples for an expansion of the power plant’s main entrance gate when their truck struck a 12,250-volt overhead power line.
