Experienced FSU linebacker leaves the locker room due to injury

Florida State is still in the early stages of a non-league game against Memphis. The game did not start off well, as the Seminoles were down 10-0 in the first half after two turnovers on offense.

Defensively, the team looked as committed as it has all season, which is the main reason FSU is currently so close. Unfortunately, the Seminoles will have to use players from across the roster if they want any chance of mounting a comeback against the Tigers.

Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller is already shorthanded, with redshirt junior safety Shyheim Brown, redshirt sophomore linebacker Omar Graham Jr. and redshirt sophomore linebacker Shawn Murphy out before kickoff. The Seminoles will have to rely even more on their rotation after senior linebacker Cam Riley was injured in the first quarter.

Riley was involved in a tackle in the final moments of the first quarter that resulted in a player loss. He remained on the field after the play before eventually being taken to the sideline by two staff members. Riley was taken directly back to the Florida State locker room instead of going to the injury tent.

It’s unclear if he can return to the game at this point, but Riley looked off balance when he was moved to the back. Riley was a key part of Florida State’s linebacker rotation early in the season. Prior to his absence, he was credited with two tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss.

With Riley out (at least for now), the Seminoles will rely on redshirt senior DJ Lundy, sophomore Blake Nichelson and sophomore Justin Cryer. Cryer was briefly injured and went to the tent, but has since returned to the field. Redshirt freshman DeMarco Ward is also on the roster as a sophomore.
