Prime Video’s next big-audience, beach-set YA book series will likely be We were liarsbased on the book by E. Lockhart.
The rights to the bestselling novel were optioned by Julie Plec’s “Called Company” and Universal Television in 2022.

A release date for the series has not yet been set.
Is We were liars in production?
Yes! The series is in production and according to pilot director Nzingha Stewart, the first episode has already been filmed.
Who will be there We were liars?
Emily Alyn Lind (Ghostbusters: The Ice Cold Empire), Subham Maheshwari, Esther McGregor (Baby Girl) and Joseph Zada (Total control), will play the eponymous Four Liars, the main quartet of children who are the focus of Lockhart’s novel.
Lind plays Cadence, the Sinclair family’s eldest granddaughter, who has an affair one summer and struggles with a traumatic brain injury the next. Maheshwari plays Gat, a New York City boy who is thoughtful, smart and ambitious but feels like he stands out among the elite on the Sinclair family’s private island. McGregor plays Mirren, an artist who keeps a close eye on the world. Zada plays Johnny, the ruthless, chaotic and charming leader of the troublemaking Four Liars.
Mamie Gummer (True Detective), Caitlin FitzGerald (Consequence) and Candice King (the Vampire Diaries) will also play the main roles – the three Sinclair sisters.

Gummer plays Carrie Sinclair, the eldest daughter of wealthy media mogul and patriarch TK. Her parents own Beechwood Island, where the family vacations every summer. She has two sons, but the coming summer may test her sobriety.
FitzGerald will play Penny Sinclair, a golden retriever breeder who is in the middle of a messy divorce.
King plays Bess Sinclair, the Sinclairs’ youngest daughter. She has three children and her meticulousness and organization knows no bounds.
Wendy Crewson (Tracker, Grey) will play a frequently recurring role, as will Rahul Kohli (The Fall of the House of Usher), who replaced Arsher Ali in the role of Ed, Carrie’s partner.
Who else is behind it We were liars?
The series is written and executive produced by Plec and MacKenzie. Plec wrote the first episode and MacKenzie wrote the second. Other executive producers include Emily Cummins for “Called Company” and the novel’s author, Lockhart. The studios are Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amazon MGM Studios. Nzingha Stewart will direct the first episode.

Prime Video has given the show a series order in March 2023.
what is We were liars about?
Set on the Sinclair family’s private island off the coast of Massachusetts, the story explores the lives of the outwardly perfect Sinclair family, who nevertheless have secrets between themselves. The three Sinclair daughters and their children spend every summer on Beechwood Island.
When she is 15, something happens to Cadence one summer and the other three liars make sure that she remembers the whole story two years later.
How will Lockhart’s prequel book Family of Liars does it all fit in?
Plec will also adapt the prequel book, which tells the mysterious story of another generation of Sinclairs.
