Everything we know about the reason for Judge Kevin Mullins’ murder

The Letcher County sheriff was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a district judge Thursday afternoon.

The shooting that left 54-year-old District Judge Kevin Mullins dead occurred at the Letcher County Courthouse in Whitesburg and is believed to have been committed by Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines.

Stines was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

So far, law enforcement has not announced an official motive in Mullins’ shooting.

What did investigators find out about the Letcher County shooting?

Investigators have determined that the shooting occurred after an argument between Stines and Mullins, said Matt Gayheart of the Kentucky State Police.

Stines was arrested shortly thereafter without incident. KSP continues to investigate the shooting.
