ESPN’s College GameDay Crew Prefers Nebraska Football Over Colorado

The Nebraska football team continues to gain support ahead of their big game against Colorado tonight.

The Huskers were almost unanimously picked over the Buffaloes by ESPN’s College GameDay crew on Saturday morning, as five of the six analysts – including guest picker Michael Phelps – chose the Cornhuskers. The only member of the crew to pick against the Big Red was former Michigan receiver Desmond Howard.

Howard has been the ire of Nebraska fans since his comments in August 2020, when the former Heisman Trophy winner suggested the Big Ten Conference needed to “get its ass out of the Big Ten.” The suggestion came after then-coach Scott Frost and former Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos suggested the Huskers would consider looking for games outside of the Big Ten due to the cancellation of the Big Ten football season because of COVID-19.

Howard was confident in the Buffaloes’ ability to move the ball against Nebraska’s defense, but fellow punter Pat McAfee continued to heap praise on Matt Rhule’s program. Earlier, the former National Football League punter highlighted the talent of freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola.

Multinational Championship-winning coach Nick Saban chose Nebraska, as did McAfee and Phelps. Kirk Herbstreit and former coach Lee Corso also chose the Huskers, agreeing with the ESPN fan poll, which saw 63% of fans polled choose the Big Red.

Earlier this week, Saban said Raiola impressed him in his Week 1 performance against UTEP, saying the first-year signal caller “didn’t look like a freshman.”
