ESPN makes the Alabama Crimson Tide the bigger favorite over the Georgia Bulldogs

Outside of the SEC, ESPN’s analytics are suspected of being too SEC-friendly. Alabama football fans and most of the SEC fan base disagree. The debate rages because in ESPN’s most recent FPI, five of the top six teams are SEC teams. Fans unhappy with ESPN can turn to Tim Brando. The longtime Bama hater has five SEC teams in the top 10 of Timmy B’s Top 15. Brando does not have Alabama in his top 15.

Following the results of Week 3 of college football, ESPN Analytics has updated the win probabilities for all teams, and with one exception, fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide will love ESPN’s new computer calculations.

Alabama’s win over Wisconsin and Georgia’s narrow victory over Kentucky increased Alabama’s probability of beating Georgia from 52.6% to 67%. According to ESPN’s algorithm, Georgia is no longer the favorite in three games: against Alabama, against Texas and against Ole Miss.

As discussed in a Sunday morning Bama Hammer According to ESPN, Texas and Alabama are now the clear favorites to win the SEC Championship Game.

In other rankings, Auburn failed to gain any votes in the most recent AP and Coaches polls. There was a wild rumor that a protest over the polls would be held at Toomer’s Corner this week. Talk of a protest may have fizzled out when the Aubies were reminded that the ESPN FPI still rates the Tigers at No. 26, making Auburn the 10th best team in the SEC.
