LSU, which began the season with a loss to Southern Cal, is likely to be 1-1 and was tied against Nicholls State on Saturday night when the game day announcement was made on Twitter/X.

The last game was in 2014 in Columbia when South Carolina hosted Missouri. In that game, they took a two-point lead late in the game, but the Tigers came back and won.

Host Rece Davis is in his 10th season at the helm, assisted by GameDay analysts Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit, Michigan legend and Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Nick Saban.

LaNorris Sellers’ first SEC road start ends with South Carolina winning over Kentucky

By Griffin Goodwyn

The pressure was on for South Carolina after a narrow season-opening win over Old Dominion on August 31. Much of that pressure also rested on the shoulders of LaNorris Seller.

Sellers’ first college start against the Monarchs was anything but ideal. Even in his second game of the 2024 season, there were moments that were not pretty.

But the redshirt freshman quarterback showed signs of improvement Saturday at Kroger Field. And those signs — along with another strong performance from South Carolina’s defense — helped South Carolina to a key 31-6 victory over Kentucky.

“What a team win for our football program. Offense, defense, special teams — you talk about grit. You talk about toughness. You talk about competitiveness. We showed it all today.” Shane Beamer said.

“When you travel, you have to be very tough. Check. You have to be physically strong. Check. When you run into adversity, you have to be very composed. Check. And a lot of unity, and we showed that. We talked about taking the game to the fourth quarter and finding a way to win it, and we definitely did that.”

Before Sellers and South Carolina’s offense could really get going, the team’s defense set the tone early on.

The Gamecocks’ 23-19 win over the Monarchs was thanks in part to a strong performance by South Carolina’s (2-0, 1-0 SEC) defensive line and secondary. The Gamecocks played a similar game against Kentucky (1-1, 0-1 SEC), holding the Wildcats’ offense in check for the first 30 minutes of the game.
