“Entourage” star casts New York Knicks in iconic roles

Jerry Ferrara pitted the New York Knicks against each other in the latest episode of “The Roommates Show.”

Ferrara, a Brooklyn-born actor best known for his role as Salvatore “Turtle” Assante on the television series “Entourage,” was one of the final guests on the web series hosted by Knicks stars Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart. Ferrara, who is also a Knicks superfan, chose to cast his beloved New Yorkers in roles similar to those in the comedy series, which aired on HBO for eight seasons before being continued as a movie in 2015.

“Josh, I think you’re doing a little Johnny drama,” Ferrara told Hart, referring to the larger-than-life, gregarious character played by Kevin Dillon. Ferrara said he was particularly inspired by the “Reggie Miller thing” during last season’s playoffs, in which Hart informed Miller that Madison Square Garden fans were yelling derogatory names at him while he was commentating on the game for TNT.

The choice of Brunson is a little more obvious, with Ferrara referring to him as “the Vincent Chase.” Vince, played by Adrian Grenier, was the real star of the otherwise ensemble-style series, which focused on his efforts as a top-tier Hollywood actor. Hart agreed, declaring, “Yes, sir, that’s our captain!”

Ferrara needed the help of his titular roommates to figure out who would be Eric “E” Murphy, Vince’s friend and manager in charge, played by Kevin Connolly. For the role, Ferrara is looking for a “reasonable” candidate who “may not make the most spectacular decisions ever,” but who will still prove to be reliable. Brunson and Hart quickly send in OG Anunoby, who often does the dirty work in the big city that doesn’t often appear on the scoresheet.

And to top it all off, Ferrara is once again at a loss as to who should be Vince’s excitable, vulgar but loyal agent Ari Gold, played by Jeremy Piven. Ferrara doesn’t want to suggest head coach Tom Thibodeau, but Hart more or less forces him to.

“The way Thibs abuses the referees, he might be the pinnacle,” Hart admits.

Ferrara, who also starred in the Starz drama series “Power,” will join Brunson and Hart in the podcasting space, as he will soon debut “Throwbacks” alongside Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart. There’s no doubt Turtle would appreciate what the Knicks would be up to in the modern day, as the character frequently showcases New York gear throughout the series.

“Entourage” can be streamed on Max.
