Eminem to perform at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards

Eminem will open the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, which air live this Wednesday, September 11, at 8 p.m. ET.

The rapper will present material from his latest album, The death of Slim Shadyfor the first time on television. Eminem is also nominated for eight VMAs this year, including Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop and Song of the Summer for the Death of Slim Shadys first single, “Houdini.” If he wins just one award, he will surpass Peter Gabriel as the most awarded male artist in VMAs history.

Eminem is no stranger to the VMA stage. His last appearance at the show was in 2022, when he and Snoop Dogg performed their collaboration “From the D 2 The LBC.” He also made a surprise appearance at Dr. Dre and Snoop’s 2012 VMA performance, opened the 2010 VMAs with “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie” with Rihanna, and made his performance debut in 1999 with a one-two of “Guilty Conscience” and “My Name Is.”

But Eminem’s most famous VMA moment may have been in 2000, when he sang “Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am” accompanied by an army of over 100 lookalikes. That performance is fittingly nominated for one of this year’s new VMA awards: Most Iconic Performance.

The 2024 VMAs will feature a number of artists, including Sabrina Carpenter, Chappel Roan, Halsey, Karol G, LL Cool J, Shawn Mendes, Lisa, Rauw Alejandro, GloRilla, Anitta and Benson Boone. Katy Perry will perform at the Video Vanguard Award ceremony, as will Megan Thee Stallion, who will also host the show.
