Ellen DeGeneres bans cell phones at Chicago show – NBC Chicago

Weeks after Ellen DeGeneres abruptly canceled a series of stand-up performances – including one of two shows in Chicago – the comedian is scheduled to perform a regularly scheduled show at the Chicago Theater on Saturday, August 10, but there’s a catch.

Telephones are not allowed.

“Mobile phones, cameras, laptops or recording devices are not permitted,” said a post on Ticketmaster. It also pointed out that special smartphones and smartwatches must be stored safely in special bags “at the request of the event organizer.”

“Anyone caught with a mobile phone in the venue will be immediately ejected,” the post continued.

According to Ticketmaster, there were still a few seats available for the comedian’s Saturday show.

After recently canceling several of her stand-up tours, including one of two dates in Chicago, Ellen DeGeneres will perform a show at the Chicago Theater on Saturday.

The cancellations followed a stand-up performance last month in Santa Rosa, California, where DeGeneres reportedly told fans, “This is the last time you’ll see me.”

“After my Netflix special, I’m done,” she said.

During the set, DeGeneres spoke openly about the criticism she has faced recently and her time in Hollywood.

“Thank you for still caring!” DeGeneres said, according to SFGATE. “Let me tell you what’s been going on with me since you last saw me. I have chickens. Oh, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.”

The 66-year-old also reflected on how her feelings about fame have changed.

“I’ve always said, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.’ Now I realize I said that at the height of my popularity,” she said. “I’m a lot of things, but I’m not mean.”

DeGeneres’ Netflix stand-up special is scheduled to air in late 2024.
