Election workers wanted for upcoming TCS referendum on property tax

TUSCALOOSA, AL – Election officials are seeking poll workers for the upcoming ad valorem school tax election on September 24.

At the ballot box, Tuscaloosa voters will decide on future funding that will benefit exclusively Tuscaloosa City Schools.

If the property tax increase is approved, according to TCS, it would mean that the average homeowner in Tuscaloosa with a home valued at $200,000 would have to pay almost $20 more per month.

The funds will then be used for the following initiatives:

  • Guaranteed preschool education for all
  • An officer in every school, all day
  • Year-round art and music programs at primary schools
  • Driver training, financial literacy courses at high school
  • More reading/math interventionists for struggling students
  • Challenging academic education, including expanded AP classes and expanded dual enrollment
  • Advanced vocational and technical training.
  • Retaining and recruiting teachers through competitive salaries
  • Updating security technology.

Those interested in serving as election workers can apply online here.
