Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announces new live-action Monster Jam movie with Disney

During Disney’s D23 2024 release event on Friday night, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced that his next project with Disney will be a live-action Monster Jam film.

The working title of the film is simply Monster Jamand follows in the F1 footsteps of Apple and Brad Pitt.

A release date has not yet been announced, but the project is currently in production. The Rock cited his love for his pickup trucks and motorsports as the catalyst for making this film. Earlier this year, Johnson experienced the excitement of NASCAR in Daytona as the Grand Marshal of the Daytona 500.

“I’m super excited to share the news with you,” Johnson said from the D23 stage. “As you know, I’m a pickup truck man. That’s all I drive. I drove here in my pickup truck. It’s in the back. You know that, and I love motorsports, love monster trucks.”

The Rock’s car collection actually consists of a little more than just pickup trucks, but the feeling remains.

Johnson announced the film by telling the audience, “Ladies and gentlemen, I want you to take a look at our next big jam.”

Afterwards, pyrotechnics were set off on stage and clips from the latest Monster Jam season, whose world finals ended on May 18 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, were shown on the screen.

The connection between Disney and Monster Jam is not far-fetched considering that Disney on Ice And Monster Jam are both part of the Feld Entertainment company based in Tampa, Florida, just 90 minutes from Disney World.

Monster Jam released a statement on Saturday following Johnson’s announcement, adding, among other things, the trademarked slogan “It doesn’t get any bigger than this!”

“Together, The Rock and Monster Jam are truly as big as it gets! We are thrilled to be partnering with Dwayne Johnson and Walt Disney Studios to bring moviegoers into the world of Monster Jam and deliver a fast-paced live-action adventure that brings the larger-than-life Monster Jam trucks and personalities from the stadium to the big screen,” said Juliette Feld Grossman, CEO of Feld Entertainment.

Monster Jam is known for combining racing and tricks with character building. Trucks like Grave Digger and Max-D have been part of the cultural zeitgeist for decades. This is their chance to shine on the big screen.
