DUI suspect arrested after accident at roundabout near Bexley Bridge

A suspect was arrested for drink driving following an accident at a roundabout near Bexley Bridge in The Villages.

Thomas Trulock, 64, of Lake Panasoffkee, was driving a white Jeep around 9 p.m. Wednesday when he crashed into the rear of a green Ford pickup truck, according to a Wildwood Police Department police report. The Jeep sustained “severe front-end damage.”

An officer noticed that Trulock’s breath “smelled strongly of alcoholic beverages,” the report states. The officer also discovered “several Busch Light beer cans” next to Trulock’s feet in the Jeep.

The truck’s Spanish-speaking occupants said Trulock’s Jeep exited the roundabout on McNeil Drive “at a high rate of speed.” Their pickup truck broke down and Trulock was unable to stop before hitting it.

Trulock was asked to participate in fasting exercises, but protested that he was “old” and would find the exercises “a struggle.” He also said he was diabetic.

He performed poorly in the exercises and refused to provide a breath sample.

He has already been convicted three times for drunk driving.

Trulock was arrested for driving under the influence and refusing to provide a breath sample. He was taken into custody and transported to the Sumter County Detention Center.
