Due to the weather, there will be delays in schools in the Charlotte metropolitan area on Tuesday

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Some Charlotte-area school districts have announced that their school day will begin two hours late on Tuesday, September 16.

The delay is due to the storm in the Charlotte subway.

Schools in Anson County:

  • Due to flooding, the forecast of high winds, and the likelihood of power outages, Anson County Schools will be closed to students on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. This will be an optional work day for employees with a two-hour delay. To avoid lost instruction, Friday, October 25, 2024 will now be a regular school day.

Schools in Richmond County:

  • Due to heavy rain and the possibility of localized flooding, Richmond County Schools will experience a two-hour class delay for all staff and students on Tuesday, September 17.
  • Students at Richmond Senior High School and Ninth Grade Academy will continue to report in the first block.
  • Students taking RCC courses: Richmond Community College will operate on its regular schedule. Students who miss classes due to the delay should contact their instructors to inform them of their absence and to make arrangements for the missed class.

Schools in Stanly County:

  • Due to the predicted impacts of the current storm, out of an abundance of caution, SCS will be scheduling a two-hour delay for students and staff on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. This delay will allow for road conditions to be assessed before buses run. Thank you for your support and patience during this time.

Public Schools in Union County:

  • Heavy rain is occurring in Union County and surrounding areas, and our county is under a wind advisory until 2 a.m. and a flash flood advisory until 8 a.m. These weather conditions could bring flooding and power outages. UCPS leaders have been in contact with emergency response teams throughout the day to provide updates on road conditions. For safety reasons, UCPS will operate a two-hour delay for students and staff on Tuesday, September 17.
  • All schools and offices will be open and buses will run two hours later than normal. The extra time in the morning will allow staff and emergency response teams to assess road conditions and school buildings during daylight hours. We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to keep all students and staff safe.
