Dry … for now – Boston News, Weather, Sports

Our dry pattern continued for another day. It was a beautiful summery day today with bright blue skies in the morning giving way to filtered sunshine in the afternoon. We added a day to our list of consecutive dry days, which now puts us in 5th place for consecutive days without measurable rain at any point in the year!

It’s no surprise, then, that September has seen virtually no rain, as the month is already 17 days old and our dry spell is currently 28 days. As far as records go, Boston had 0.00 inches in September. Well, technically we’ve seen a few drops at times, which is considered a “trace.” A trace doesn’t count for historical reasons, which is why the record books say zero. That’s also why you’ll see two different numbers below on our list of driest Septembers compared to the monthly precipitation data. We’re currently having the driest September (so far) on record.

That will change tomorrow when the rain comes late. And by late, I mean LATE. So most (almost all) of Wednesday is dry. Cirrus clouds will continue to thicken tomorrow, giving us filtered sunshine, but the rain should hold off until 10 p.m. or later. Even if they come late, late, late, if it rains before midnight, our consecutive dry day will be over, as Wednesday is technically rain.

Rain will return Wednesday night into Thursday and continue through Friday. The farther north you are, the less rain you will see. The storm center will stay south of us as it passes, so the closer you are to the storm center, the more rain you will see toward the end of the work week.

Behind this storm is some real fall air. This is the stuff fall lovers have been waiting for! Temperatures will stay at 15 degrees this weekend, which is more typical for early October! That’s fitting though, since fall officially begins this Sunday at 8:43 a.m.! In addition to the cooler temperatures, a pleasant breeze will keep the fall feeling going.
