Dr. Timothy Yancy is interim dean of the Division of Business, Education and Professional Studies at Manor College.
Dr. Timothy Yancy is motivated by a spirit of service. He remembers how, as a child, his grandmother and parents found ways to volunteer at their church or in volunteer organizations.
As he grew older, service to others motivated him to pursue a career as an educator.
“I am the type of person who wants to see others succeed and help them achieve their goals,” said Dr. Yancy.
Dr. Yancy earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Delaware, his master’s degree in business administration from Strayer University, and his doctorate in education from Delaware State University. At each stop, faculty and staff were there to guide him through his education. He remembers how one – a financial aid administrator – took the time to explain the process and find resources.
To this day, Dr. Yancy continues to speak with these professors and staff. Now that he is working in higher education, they have become a source of ideas for him, and he hopes to extend this type of contact to the students at Manor College.
“These connections are important when you’re trying to build a career,” said Dr. Yancy. “They helped me understand how I could do better or do more. They were references and helped me gain access to others. These connections became like extensions of my family.”
Dr. Yancy joined Manor College in 2023 and is interim dean of the Business Division and program director and associate professor of Sports ManagementHe is also co-chair of Manor College Diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility Committee. He chose Manor because it offered a family atmosphere and religious ideals.
He noted Manor College’s continued commitment to Ukraine during the Russian invasion, continuing church services and religious events throughout the year.
“We are a smaller institution, but we get a lot done,” said Dr. Yancy. “I think we are really trying to make a difference. These events, seminars and workshops are what make Manor College a school committed to social justice. There are more great things to come.”
His goal at Manor is to combine Manor’s service with his love of business to help students achieve their dreams. He recalls how one last semester he helped a sports management student get an internship with a spring basketball league. When the student returned, he raved about the experience.
“I want to be the person who empowers and educates students to be more successful,” said Dr. Yancy. “I believe that the basic skills of the business world are useful to everyone. I feel like I have an entrepreneurial spirit and that I can help others learn these skills and grow in their daily lives.”
