The Atlanta Falcons (1:1) hosted the 2:0 Super Bowl winners, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sunday evening. The prime-time duel was exciting and ended with a 22:17 victory for the Kansas City Chiefs.

As wide receivers, two former USC Trojans stole the show. Drake London, wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, and JuJu Smith-Schuster, wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, were equally up to the task on the main stage.

London was outstanding for the Falcons, catching six passes for 67 yards and scoring one touchdown on nine attempts. London, who caught the game-winning touchdown against the Eagles last week, has had two impressive games in a row.

While Smith-Schuster wasn’t particularly productive, he made one of the most important plays of the game for the Chiefs, catching a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes to give the Chiefs a 22-14 second-half lead. Smith-Schuster finished the game with two catches for 17 yards and a touchdown.

London is off to a great start this season. In Atlanta’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles last week, London also made the game-winning catch. However, after the big play, London celebrated with a gun-like finger pointed to the sky. The NFL fined London $14,069 for unsportsmanlike conduct/violent gestures.

Falcons head coach Raheem Morris spoke about London’s character.

“Drake is a great kid and his intention was not to use a weapon,” Morris said Tuesday. “He was probably shooting T-shirts into the stands, to be honest, because that’s just the kind of guy he is, but he was excited. He was excited.”

“He’s one of those guys who plays with a lot of energy. He apologized right there on the spot before I even had a chance to correct him.”

London then again apologized publicly to reporters.

“There’s a lot of gun violence stuff going on in the world that I don’t think I should have put it there,” London said. “So I’m not very happy with it and you probably won’t see anything like that from me again.”

Both London and Smith-Schuster are players to keep an eye on this season as they were both important parts of their offense. The former Trojans are ready to make a lasting impact on two solid NFL teams.
