Doug Emhoff hit back at Trump’s former White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, after she attacked Kamala Harris for not having biological children.

The Arkansas governor told a Trump town hall meeting in Michigan that her own children had kept her “humble,” adding, “Unfortunately, there is nothing about Kamala Harris that keeps her humble.”

At a campaign fundraiser on Wednesday, the second gentleman spoke on the issue, referring to his children Cole and Ella, whose stepmother is Harris.

“They said there’s nothing in their lives that keeps them humble because Cole and Ella are not Kamala’s, quote-unquote, biological children,” Emhoff told his supporters, according to CNN. “As if keeping women humble is something we should strive for, whether they have children or not.”

Emhoff and Harris’ family life has become a bizarre target for Republicans, and Sanders joined people like Trump’s running mate JD Vance in criticizing those who do not have children of their own.

But the second gentleman also took the Republicans’ latest attack personally, saying that he and Kamala “have the same joy in raising children as any other parent anywhere in the world.”

“For me, Kamala and Kerstin, there is nothing more important than our children, our big, beautiful patchwork family,” said Emhoff about his ex-wife Kerstin Emhoff, the mother of his two children.

“The women of this country will never humble themselves before Donald Trump,” he added at the fundraiser in Brooklyn, also attacking the former president’s record in dealing with women.

“We know what they’re really trying to do,” Emhoff said. “It’s Dobbs. It’s Project 2025. They’re spreading hate and trying to pit women against each other, they’re trying to pit all of us against each other.”

“But I have news for him,” he added. “The women of this country are sick of weak men trying to take away their basic rights and then… confuse them with it.”
