“Don’t wear this to a wedding,” people shout, warning that guests will upset the bride and beg her to go shopping at Tesco.

Finding the right outfit for a wedding is no easy task for guests – from avoiding red to the formal dress code, there is a lot to consider.

But one woman was criticized for her outfit, which she wore at a Bordeaux Wedding.

On social media, the nervous wedding guest asked: “Wedding guest in panic, dress too tight?”

“So I have a beautiful dress for a wedding on Saturday, but I tried it on last night and it’s very tight.

“The zipper can be closed with a lot of pulling, but once it’s up, it feels very uncomfortable.

“I could wear it, but in this heat it will be torture. I feel so stupid.”

But now she changed her mind and decided on a new outfit.

She shared a picture of the ensemble, which consisted of a navy blue silk V-neck top and a long white satin skirt.

“Would that be okay, what do you think? It’s a wedding in France. It’s supposed to be about 30 degrees.”

“I also have a black satin skirt and could look for a matching top to go with it,” she continued.

Since there were so many rules to follow for the wedding outfit, the woman was obviously very nervous and didn’t know what to choose.

Although she found her dress to be too tight, users pointed out another problem with her second outfit choice that she clearly missed.

Wedding dress drama: Guest asked to take off over-outfit

The post was flooded with comments from other Mumsnet users who said her outfit wasn’t the best for the occasion.

One person wrote: “I would avoid the cream colored petticoat. It is Pretty but too white and could be sweaty.”

Another commented: “You’ll be suffocating in satin polyester! Cool and relaxed, Tesco had some lovely simple double layered knit dresses. Gathered top and spaghetti straps and I know you want spaghetti straps but… I’m in the north Italy and the heat is extra hot.”

Etiquette for wedding guest outfits

If you can’t decide on a dress for wedding season, here are a few rules on what not to wear so you don’t get in trouble.

  • According to legend, wearing red at a wedding means that you have slept with the groom.
  • Casual clothing such as jeans and flip-flops should generally be avoided.
  • Any color that could be perceived as white or cream – even if it is not.
  • Most would agree that the cleavage needs to be covered.
  • Unless you are the bride, wearing white is an absolute no-go.

“Of all the colors in the world, this is the one you shouldn’t wear to a wedding. White satin is a bridal fabric and a navy top doesn’t go with it,” wrote a third.

Meanwhile, a fourth said: “I wouldn’t wear a dark satin top. If you get hot, you get sweat stains. It doesn’t look good.”
