Donald Trump loses the attention of conservative TV stations

Former President Donald Trump lost the attention of conservative television networks after delivering a speech in Howell, Michigan, on Tuesday.

Fox News and Newsmax interrupted Trump’s speech at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and showed only brief clips in which the Republican presidential candidate spoke about the Democrats’ “soft-on-crime policies.”

Trump – who is usually lively and energetic at rallies and campaign appearances – struck a completely different tone on Tuesday, speaking softly and almost monotone as he made remarks about law and order in the country.

Fox shut down Trump after he criticized the country’s law enforcement agencies for targeting him and election deniers but not “people who kill people,” and Newsmax shut down after he began talking about his legal troubles in New York.

The programming changes were spotted on X, formerly Twitter, and come as Trump is battling Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris is not only still riding the momentum that erupted with the launch of her presidential campaign just a month ago, but will also officially accept the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination at the party’s convention in Chicago this week.

Newsweek has contacted the Trump team via email and asked for comment.

“WHAT A BOTHERING! Even FOX is sick of Trump’s ‘Greatest Hits Tour,'” tweeted one user.

“If Trump lost Newsmax, the network built on the MAGA idiots running from Fox News, then you lost everything,” said another.

“He sounds like he’s about to fall asleep. Is it nap time for Grandpa?” asked a third.

While Democrats gather in Chicago to demonstrate their own unity, Trump is traveling to swing states throughout the week to offer a counter-program to the convention. Trump appeared in York, Pennsylvania, on Monday to give a speech on the economy and energy, while he used his visit to Michigan on Tuesday to address crime.

As President Joe Biden took the stage on Monday to deliver the keynote address for the first night of the Democratic National Convention, the Trump campaign issued a press release declaring the day “counter-day” of the Democratic National Convention and accusing speakers of lying about Harris’ and Trump’s past. Republicans argued that Harris’ tenure as San Francisco district attorney was not as rose-tinted as convention guests portrayed it and pushed back against attacks on Trump’s past as a production official.

Trump delivered his more measured speech on Tuesday after observers noted a shift in his rhetoric, moving away from personal attacks against Harris and toward her policies. During his address on Monday, Trump largely stuck to the words from the teleprompter and did not mention Harris’ ethnic identity, as he has in the past.

In a press release ahead of his speech in Michigan, Trump’s campaign focused on Harris’ crime policies, calling her “the most anti-police major party presidential candidate in history” and citing the vice president’s previous statements on law enforcement issues.

The press release also included a list of recommendations Trump had received from police unions, as well as poll results and statistics on Americans’ attitudes toward crime and how the murder rate has changed since Trump left office.
