Suspicious packages were sent to election officials in at least six states on Monday

On Monday, suspicious packages were sent to election officials in at least six states, the Associated Press reported. However, there was no evidence that any of the packages actually contained hazardous materials.

Packages containing powder were sent to secretaries of state and state election offices in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wyoming And OklahomaOfficials in those states confirmed. The FBI and the U.S. Postal Service investigated. It was the second time in the past year that suspicious packages were sent to election officials in several state offices.

The packages forced an evacuation in Iowa. A state office building in Topeka, Kansas, was also evacuated because both the Secretary of State and the Attorney General had received suspicious mail.

Last November, suspicious letters were sent to election offices and government buildings in at least six states, including the same building in Kansas that received suspicious mail on Monday.

The acting director of the US Secret Service said in his press conference on Monday that the agency needs a radical overhaul to meet the challenge of protecting presidents in the current climate.

“After Butler (where Trump was shot in Pennsylvania), I ordered a paradigm shift. The Secret Service’s protection methods work and are solid, as we saw yesterday. (But) we need to move away from a reactive model and toward a preparedness model.” Ronald Rowe Jr said.

The Washington Post is one of those calling for tighter security measures around the former president Donald TrumpIn an editorial, the newspaper wrote overnight:

Trump is no longer receiving the same level of protection he received when he was president. That must change. Fifty days before a head-to-head election, after two attempts on his life, Trump should be receiving presidential-level coverage. Trump’s protection during his campaign is as important a part of ensuring political stability and continuity of government as one could imagine.

Elsewhere in its report, the newspaper says that Trump’s penchant for golf has long been a concern for intelligence agencies. It reports:

Trump’s aides and intelligence agents have long been concerned that he might attract attention while playing golf. The problem, they say, is twofold. He chooses places to play golf – his own clubs – that are particularly difficult to secure. And then he follows a highly predictable routine every weekend.

Bill Gagea former Secret Service agent, said the gunman probably didn’t need to conduct “very sophisticated surveillance.” “He just had to sit and wait for Trump to arrive,” he said. “You don’t have to do a lot of guessing to know where he’s going to be, and that gives a bad guy time to prepare,” he said.

During his appeal on social media last night, the former president said Donald Trump Praise was also given to the witness who led to the identification of suspected shooter Ryan Wesley Routh, who was subsequently arrested on I-95.

While promoting a new cryptocurrency business venture, Trump said:

The civilian did a phenomenal job. A woman. I mean, who would have thought how many people would have the sense to follow him and take pictures of the back of his truck to eventually – and the key was the license. So they got the license, and once they got the license, you know, there’s all kinds of technology that they can use to literally pinpoint exactly where that truck is. I didn’t know such a thing existed. And they tracked it on the highway.

It was quite a thing, but it worked out well and the Secret Service did an excellent job. They’ve got the man behind bars and hopefully he’ll be there for a long time. A dangerous person, a very, very dangerous person.

Donald Trump describes the events of the shooting attempt

The former president Donald Trump reported on the weekend’s events on social media on Monday. He told listeners:

I was playing golf with some friends. It was a Sunday morning, very peaceful, the weather was lovely, everything was beautiful, it was a beautiful place. And suddenly we heard shots in the air, I guess four or five, and it sounded like bullets. But what do I know about that? But the Secret Service knew immediately that it was bullets and they caught me.

We all got in the golf carts and made pretty good time. I was with an agent and the agent did a fantastic job. There was no doubt that we were off course. I would have loved to sink the last putt, but we decided to get out of there.

He started shooting at the barrel, started shooting into the bushes. Could only see the barrel. How good is that? Right? Could only see the barrel. Based on that, he started shooting and ran toward the target and shot a lot, I mean, those were the shots we heard. The other one never fired a shot.

The acting head of the Secret Service, Ronald Rowe Jrhas confirmed that the suspected shooter, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, did not fire any shots.

Trump gave this speech as he launched a new cryptocurrency business after previously mocking cryptocurrencies, saying in 2021, “Bitcoin, this just seems like a scam.”
