Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa experienced another scary Thursday Night Football moment when he suffered a concussion after a powerful hit from Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

After Tagovailoa left the field under his own power, it took the Dolphins medical staff just six minutes to determine that the signal-caller had suffered a concussion.

On fourth-and-4, the Dolphins needed a touchdown to stay in the game. Tagovailoa stepped into the pocket and ran to get over the posts and keep the drive alive.

Despite passing the first down line, Tagovailoa kept running and met Hamlin in the open field, throwing him head first instead of sliding. Hamlin didn’t have to do much to bring him down, as Tagovailoa immediately went down and slammed his head into the Hard Rock Stadium turf.

Tagovailoa made the first attempt, but apparently at the worst possible price, as he raised his hand for a teammate to lift him up.

But Tagovailoa appeared disoriented, as his hand began to move uncontrollably, and he held his head as the Dolphins crowded around him. Players from both the Bills and Dolphins knelt as medical personnel quickly rushed over and examined the quarterback.

After speaking with him, Tagovailoa eventually walked off the field at full strength, but with a noticeable limp. Instead of going to the blue medical tent, Tagovailoa walked with the trainers from the field to the locker room, where they determined that he did indeed have a concussion.

While Tagovailoa did not miss a single game during the 2023 season, there were some scary moments for the left-handed quarterback during the 2022 season as he suffered three concussions, one of which came during Thursday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals, where he left the field on a stretcher.

Tagovailoa appeared to have suffered a concussion in the previous home game against the Bills, but it was determined that he had sustained a back injury that had caused him to stumble after clearly hitting his head on the ground during a play.

Just a few days later, in Week 4 against the Bengals, Tagaovailoa was thrown to the turf at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, and a disturbing scene ensued when he posed with his hands, an incident that sometimes occurs with head injuries that cause the fingers to curl.

Players prayed on the field as Tagovailoa was carried off the field on a stretcher. He missed two games before finally returning in Week 7.

Then in Week 16 against the Green Bay Packers, Tagovailoa suffered his third concussion of the season, which essentially sidelined him for the rest of the year.

During the offseason, the Hawaii native admitted that he considered retirement for a while because he was aware of how much head injuries can impact a person’s life given the research on CTE. But he entered last season confident and proved it by playing every single game.

Now we will see if and when Tagovailoa will pass the concussion protocol.

Before his injury, Tagovailoa threw three interceptions, one of which was returned for a pick-six, and a touchdown to De’Von Achane.
