Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips announced that the knee injury he suffered in Monday night’s tough loss to the Titans ended his season just four weeks into the 2024 season.

Phillips announced in a post on Instagram that the injury would require reconstructive surgery, making this the second straight season in which his year was completely cut short due to injury.

“I believe that our lives depend on how we deal with adversity. In these moments of uncertainty, defeat and heartache, it is natural to question your purpose and wonder what the meaning of this pain is,” he wrote. “I know my goal is to inspire people to never give up, no matter how many times you get knocked down. I am a living testimony to the power of resilience and faith, and I feel the strength to know that my God is greater than any obstacle. Through him I will persevere. There is nothing in life that you cannot overcome as long as you don’t give up.

“The mission is still the mission. I have unfinished business and I will emerge victorious from this trial. Thank you all for your continued support and love. Fins up”

In an Instagram caption that included his statement, Phillips wrote that he was “devastated to miss another season, but my determination has never been stronger… I’ll be back.”

The injury occurred in the second and third quarters of Miami’s “Monday Night Football” loss to Tennessee.

Phillips initially injured his knee in the second quarter, forcing him to leave the field and briefly visit the medical tent before returning.

The problem resurfaced the following quarter and Phillips appeared visibly frustrated.

Phillips suffered a season-ending injury on Black Friday against the Jets last year when he tore his Achilles tendon.

The linebacker had one sack this season before the injury and has recorded 23 sacks in four years with the Dolphins.
