Dolphins-Bills live updates: Tua out with concussion after three INTs in 31-10 loss

Well, that didn’t go as planned.

The Buffalo Bills defeated the Miami Dolphins 31-10 at Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday night.

While Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion late in the third quarter is the big news, two injuries on the offensive line — namely left guard Robert Jones and left tackle Terron Armstead — should not be overlooked. Jones suffered a shoulder injury early in the third quarter and did not return. Armstead also suffered a shoulder injury just after 9:30 in the third quarter. He soon returned, but was replaced by Kendall Lamm in the fourth quarter.

All eyes will be on Tagovailoa, but two injuries on the offensive line could make things even worse for whoever lines up behind him.

TERRON ARMSTEAD AND JEFF WILSON JR. OFFICIALLY EXCLUDED

Armstead’s participation in the third quarter was initially listed as questionable, but later returned. However, in the fourth quarter, Armstead was replaced by Kendall Lamm. The Dolphins officially ruled Armstead out late in the fourth quarter.

Shortly after Armstead’s day ended, the Dolphins announced that Wilson had suffered an oblique injury and would not return.

TUA RETURNS, RULED OUT DUE TO CONCUSSION

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will miss Thursday’s game against the Buffalo Bills due to a concussion.

Tagovailoa collided with Bills safety Damar Hamilin late in the third quarter. He lay on the ground for a few minutes before being escorted off the field.

Skylar Thompson will replace him as quarterback.

TUA THROWS PICK 6

Things have officially gotten ugly.

When the Dolphins were already 14 points behind, Tua Tagovailoa tried to throw the ball out of bounds.

The thing is, he didn’t get enough of it, so Ja’Marcus Ingram, his second of the game, easily intercepted the ball. Ingram carried the ball 31 yards into the house. The Bills now lead 31-10

ROBERT JONES’ RETURN QUESTIONABLE

The left guard has a shoulder injury and his return is questionable.

Lester Cotton is currently left guard.

HALFTIME SCORE: 24-10 Bills

Thanks to a 34-yard field goal from Jason Sanders, the Dolphins were able to reduce the deficit to just two points.

There are a few things to keep in mind:

Tyreek Hill has two catches for 16 yards and a single run for 12.

Jonnu Smith is the team leader in pass catches (4) and yards (40), and his four targets are tied with Hill for the team lead.

The Dolphins defense has not yet recorded a sack.

The Dolphins lead the Bills in total net yards, first downs and offensive plays, but Tua Tagovailoa’s two interceptions clearly made the difference. Buffalo scored 10 points on Tagovailoa’s two turnovers.

WHAT A HOMECOMING FOR JAMES COOK

Normally these notes are reserved for anything related to dolphins.

But when a former Miami Central Rocket scores three times in the first half, you make an exception.

Cook had just completed a 49-yard handoff before jumping into the end zone for his third touchdown of the game, following a 1-yard run and a 17-yard pass.

The Bills now lead 24-7.

JAYLEN WRIGHT RECEIVES FIRST NFL CARRIER

The highly praised rookie running back made his first appearance in the second quarter at around 12:41 minutes.

He gained four yards. His second run would have gained him nine yards, but was called back for holding.

TUA THROWS SECOND INT

Tua Tagovailoa threw his second interception of the game during the Dolphins’ third drive.

Tagovailoa targeted Robbie Chosen, who was promoted from the practice squad earlier today. Although Chosen slipped on his route, it didn’t quite look like he and Tagovailoa were on the same wavelength.

Both of Tagovailoa’s interceptions came on throws to receivers who were not on the roster at the start of training camp. Chosen was signed to the Dolphins’ practice squad in late August, while Grant DuBose, who Tagovailoa targeted for his first interception, was claimed off waivers around the same time.

Fortunately, the Dolphins defense held firm and forced the Bills to make a field goal. The score is 10-7.

ACHANE SCORES FINS FIRST TOUCHDOWN

A number of fantasy football managers were really happy right now.

After his participation in today’s game was questionable, De’Von Achane scored the Fins’ first touchdown with a 5-yard swing route in the red zone, tying the game at 7-7.

Achane touched the ball four times on that drive, giving him six total touches in the game. Achane’s early possessions are a good sign considering his ankle nearly sidelined the second-year running back against the Bills.

TUA THROWS FIRST INT OF THE SEASON

Tua Tagovailoa threw his first interception of the season on the Dolphins’ first offensive drive.

But it wasn’t necessarily his fault.

The franchise quarterback threw a pass that hit the recently signed DuBose right in the middle of the net. Unfortunately, the ball bounced right off his shoulder pads and into the hands of cornerback Ja’Marcus Ingram.

To make matters worse, the Bills scored on their very next drive, putting the Dolphins behind 7-0.

ACHANE TO PLAY

According to Wednesday’s injury report, running back Raheem Mostert (chest) and rookie receiver Malik Washington (quadriceps) were ruled out for Thursday’s game.

Other inactive players include Ethan Bonner, Channing Tindall, Mohamed Kamara and Andrew Meyer.

The most notable absence from Thursday’s inactive list: De’Von Achane, who will likely start at running back in Mostert’s place. Jeff Wilson Jr. and rookie Jaylen Wright will also be in the mix.

SELECTED INCREASED

The Dolphins promoted a player from the practice squad for the game: receiver Robbie Chosen. He will join Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Braxton Berrios and Grant DuBose as the team’s receivers. Running back De’Von Achane played 11 snaps as a receiver against Jacksonville.

Players can advance three times in a season; for the chosen ones, this is the second time.

TYREEK HILL UPDATE

Tyreek Hill said at his press conference on Tuesday that he would not accept an apology from Danny Torres, the police officer who handcuffed him during a traffic stop outside Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.

But Torres’ legal representative told Outkick’s Armando Salguero that there was never an apology.

Hill has not ruled out legal action against Torres. The Miami Dade Police Department has placed Torres in an administrative position pending an internal investigation.
