Dodgers roster: Austin Barnes activated, Hunter Feduccia optioned

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Dodgers activated backup catcher Austin Barnes from the injured list on Thursday after he missed nine games with a fracture in his left big toe.

This is not to be confused with that other He suffered a fracture in his left big toe, which was located elsewhere and caused Barnes to miss eight games in late August. In both cases, Barnes was on the injured list for at least 10 days.

The most recent big toe fracture for Barnes occurred on September 15 in Atlanta when Jorge Soler fouled a ball off Barnes’ toe, forcing the catcher to leave the game.

Between IL stints, Barnes had seven hits in 18 at-bats (.389), including a double and three RBI in eight games. This season he is hitting .261/.327/.306 with an 84 wRC+ in 149 plate appearances.

Before Wednesday’s game at Dodger Stadium, Barnes worked with strength coach Travis Smith and the training staff on various drills, including running the bases to test his toe.

Will Smith will start behind the plate in Thursday’s series finale against the Padres, his 116th catch start of the season, five more than his previous career high.

Hunter Feduccia was optioned after his third appearance in the majors, marking his first taste of big league life. The left-hander had four hits in twelve at-bats and two walks. In this latest outing, Feduccia had three hits in nine at-bats, including his first major league RBI on Sunday against the Rockies.

Feduccia saw action in 21 games in his three appearances with the Dodgers and appeared in five games, making three starts behind the plate.
