Did this Harley-swapped mini truck make it to Sturgis? You’re going to want to hear it

The Quickshift

  • Cboystv likes dirt bikes as well as crazy modified car and bike projects
  • This time they took a Daihatsu mini truck and installed a big Harley V-twin inside
  • There is cheerfulness

It is now the last week of August and we have a question: Is there anything that someone not Was a Suzuki Hayabusa engine installed at this time?

The list keeps getting shorter, but you know what’s not nearly as common? Putting a Harley V-twin engine in a tiny, nondescript Daihatsu Hijet mini-pickup (or kei truck, if you’re all about JDM).

More specifically, the little auction screenshot that the guys at Cboystv flash on the screen for a second in this video says it’s a Daihatsu Hijet Climber, which suggests it has a differential lock. It’s not entirely clear if they’re actually converting one here, or if this screenshot was just an auction for a completely different Hijet. And we never get a good look at the controls to see if there’s a switch (and if there is, they never mention it).

This is a bit of a pain, though, because we actually need to deal with where the engine is located. When they get the little truck (which already has a nice Hot Wheels-style blue paint job) back to the shop, the first task is to remove the bed to get to the engine, which sits just behind the cab under the bed.

Fortunately, the engine is quite easy to remove.

Then we get a crash course in how they converted the Harley engine to a chain drive instead of sticking with the original belt, simply because every previous conversion they’d ever done with belts didn’t work and they had much better luck with the chain drive. So it’s a chain drive conversion, but we don’t get to see it.

Once the Harley engine is mounted behind the cab, they take it for a test drive to see if it works. We don’t get much insight into the build process, but they assure viewers that they learned a lot about how to put motorcycle engines in mini trucks after their previous build of a Hayabusa-powered Honda Acty. So I guess we’ll just have to take their word for it?

Eventually we learn that the real purpose of this build is to go to Sturgis. The Cboys are into a lot of things, not the least of which is dirt bikes, so this isn’t really their cup of tea.

Not only do they come with the Harley-powered mini truck (which now has cool flame stickers and has been dubbed the “Minihog”), but also the Hayabusa-powered mini truck, a Street Glide, a modified Yamaha R6 dirt bike, and a Sea-Doo street ski.

And then they realize they’re not dressed appropriately for the event. So they head to the tents in Sturgis to find more appropriate clothing and really get into the event spirit.

Is the whole thing hilarious? Yes, and there’s also a cameo from the Grind Hard guys, and they break the monster chopper’s driveshaft. Me telling you that doesn’t do any justice to what (and how) actually happens, though, so queue up this video and watch it right now.
