K-pop group ATEEZ has released a remix of their single “Work” G-Eazywhich led to speculation among fans on the Internet that the rapper’s verse was about his ex-girlfriend, Halsey.
In the remix of “Work,” released on Friday, August 9, G-Eazy, 35, raps, “You act like you’re innocent, no, it ain’t your first time / We’re far away if Libra is her zodiac sign / Ugh, danger, danger (Danger, danger) / Don’t be a stranger (Don’t be a stranger) / She said ain’t nobody can save her.”
Because of his astrological allusion, some fans believed that G-Eazy (real name Gerald Earl Gillum) used his verse in the remix as a deliberate allusion to Halsey (29), who was born under the zodiac sign of Libra.
One user wrote of the lyrics via X, “I thought it was weird when he sang that (because) I immediately think of Halsey… that’s an ATEEZ song why the f*** did you make it about you,” while another added, “A collab to insult your ex a little bit.” Another X user quipped, “G-Eazy trashing Halsey in a K-pop collab… that was not on my bingo list AT ALL.”
Halsey and G-Eazy have been together since 2017, although neither has spoken publicly about why they split in 2018. However, Halsey briefly reflected on the split in an interview with Cosmopolitanand said at the time: “If the worst thing that’s happened to me so far is wearing stupid clothes and dating a shitty guy, then I think I’m doing pretty well.”
A source told exclusively We weekly in July 2020 that the rapper was “in a much better place” after his breakup and described his relationship with Halsey as “toxic, especially towards the end.”
The source shared: “Gerald has a much more positive outlook on life now and is healing through music. He has spent much of the pandemic in his home studio, whether it was writing and recording new songs or just playing around and experimenting. It’s been a real creative breakthrough.”
Earlier this year, Halsey responded via Instagram to trolls who flooded her comments section by repeatedly posting her ex’s name.
“I see y’all in the comments,” she wrote in February 2020, according to Business Insider. “And I know y’all think you’re funny. Because y’all are at home on your iPhone and I’m not a real person to y’all. I hope to God y’all never have to experience an abusive relationship. And if you do, I hope the world is kinder to you than you were to me.” She never confirmed whether her comment about an abusive relationship was referring to G-Eazy.
