JOHNSON CITY, NY (WBNG) — There was a celebration at Oakdale Commons on Saturday. The Johnson City location of DICK’S House of Sport celebrated its first anniversary.
The sporting goods retailer opened the store last year, making it the largest sporting goods store in the country.
In addition to the climbing wall, batting cages and other interactive experiences that can normally be enjoyed there, a DJ and slow-motion camera studio were also set up on Saturday for people to enjoy.
Organizers emphasized how special this event was because Dick’s company was founded in Binghamton over 75 years ago.
“We’re really excited about today. This is our one-year anniversary, like you said. What’s really exciting is our history. We started here in Binghamton in 1948, so we’re 76 years old this year and it’s just great to bring this building and the things we do in this building to the community,” said Stephen Franklin, the Event Executive Director of the Johnson City DICK’S House of Sport.
Donte Divincenzo, the star of the New York Knicks, was also there to celebrate the day. The NBA shooting guard signed autographs for several hundred fans who were watching in front of the store.
