“Dexter” prequel series sets premiere date and releases first teaser

The premiere date of the prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” has been set at Showtime on Paramount+.

The series will launch on December 13 for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers on streaming and on-demand before making its linear debut on December 15. It will air internationally on Paramount+ on December 13.

Paramount also released the first teaser for the series, in which original “Dexter” star Michael C. Hall can be heard narrating, saying, “I’m a killer, but I wasn’t born one. I was made one.”

The full teaser can be found below.

Dexter: Original Sin consists of 10 episodes. The official series description states that it is set in Miami in 1991 and “follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from high school student to vengeful serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can no longer be ignored, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. Under the guidance of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), he adopts a code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on the radar of law enforcement. This presents a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensic internship with the Miami Metro Police Department.”

The series’ cast also includes Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson and special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar. Hall will voice the inner monologue in Dexter’s head throughout the show.

Clyde Phillips, the original showrunner and executive producer of “Dexter,” returns in that role for “Original Sin.” Hall also serves as an executive producer on the series, as do Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns. Michael Lehmann, the director of “Heathers,” will serve as director and executive producer. Robert Lloyd Lewis is a producer on the series. Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios are producing. Gary Levine and Urooj Sharif will supervise for Showtime Studios, with production being overseen by Tara Power. The series will be distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of Paramount+ markets.
