The most awaited film Devara: Part 1 starring Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor hit the theaters today. Directed by Siva Koratala, this high budget entertainer has garnered a lot of positive buzz. Check out our review to find out how the film fares.

Story:

Set in Ratnagiri, a coastal village near the Red Sea, the film features Devara (Jr. NTR), Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan), Rayappa (Srikanth) and others as the bigwigs of their respective villages. They assist a powerful figure, Muruga (Murali Sharma), in smuggling goods from ships. Devara realizes that these activities are wrong, but Bhaira disagrees, causing him to plan to kill Devara. In a turn of events, Devara disappears and twelve years pass. Bhaira rules Ratnagiri and is still determined to find and kill Devara. Vara, Devara’s son, is innocent and helpless. Later he teams up with Bhaira. Why does Vara join forces with Bhaira? Is he going against his father’s wishes? Does Vara have bad memories of Devara? Where is Devara and does he live? Did Bhaira manage to hunt Devara? Why does he want to kill Devara? All of these questions are answered in the film.

Pros:

Jr NTR once again proves his mettle with solid performances in Devara: Part 1, captivating the audience in two different roles – Devara and Vara. As Devara, he embodies humility and destructiveness, while his portrayal of Vara expresses innocence and cowardice. He balances both roles effectively and delivers a captivating performance.

Saif Ali Khan shines as Bhaira, a character driven by revenge against Devara, which marks a commendable debut for him in Tollywood. Janhvi Kapoor gives an adequate performance and her scenes with young NTR add an entertaining dynamic to the film.

The action sequences are standout moments that are expertly crafted to captivate the audience and elicit enthusiastic reactions. Additionally, several dialogues highlight Devara’s character and add an entertaining touch. Supporting performances from Srikanth, Prakash and others add positively to the film.

Minuses:

Although the story is entertaining, it tends to be predictable. Koratala Siva could have improved certain parts, especially in the second half where the script could have been more engaging.

Some scenes lack effective execution, and improving these moments could have had a significant impact on the entire film.

Janhvi Kapoor’s role is limited to a few scenes, which might disappoint her fans as she hardly gets a chance to showcase her talent. Prakash Raj’s performance is decent but his backstory could have been fleshed out better.

Saif Ali Khan’s role also feels limited in the second half and the climax comes quite abruptly, shocking the audience.

Technical aspects:

Siva Koratala is successful as both a writer and a director; However, the writing style could have benefited from refinement, particularly in the second half. The emotional depth of the story could have been explored more thoroughly.

Ratnavelu’s cinematography and Anirudh Ravichander’s music are exceptional and enrich the entire cinematic experience. Sreekar Prasad’s editing is satisfactory but there is room for improvement in the second half. The action choreography is impressive and the production values are commendable.

Verdict:

Overall, Devara: Part 1 is an action-packed drama that provides entertainment. Jr NTR carries the film with his outstanding performance while Janhvi Kapoor adds her charm and Saif Ali Khan is commendable in his role. The downside is that the film has a predictable plot and has some delayed scenes in the second half. Don’t miss out – secure your tickets and make your weekend something special.
