Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch is questionable against the Seattle Seahawks

Detroit — The Detroit Lions have changed the playing status of safety Brian Branch, downgrading the second-year playmaker to doubtful for Monday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Branch, who suffered a concussion after Detroit’s 20-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, is ill. Branch was limited in practice on Thursday before being listed as a full participant by the Lions on Friday and Saturday.

Joining Branch on the status report for the Seahawks game are center Frank Ragnow (pec), who is out, and rookie cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. (hamstring), who is questionable. The Lions also placed a trio of defensive backs on injured reserve this week: pass rusher Marcus Davenport (arm), linebacker Derrick Barnes (knee) and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle).

Davenport is likely out for the season, Barnes will be out for what Lions coach Dan Campbell called a “significant” period of time and there is no clear picture for Melifonwu’s return. Campbell said Saturday he doesn’t believe Ragnow’s future is as an injured reserve player.

Branch has started 2024 well, recording five pass deflections in three games. That puts him second among all NFL players, behind Cleveland’s Denzel Ward, according to Pro Football Focus.
