ZANESVILLE, Ohio – 2024 is a presidential election year, which always means higher voter turnout.
Cheryl West, specialist for the Muskingum County Board of Elections, provided some information on voter registration deadlines for the November 5 general election.
“There are some deadlines coming up if people want to make an address change, name change, or register for the first time. Initial registration, as well as updating name and address changes, must be completed by Oct. 7 at 9 p.m. That’s the deadline if you want to vote in the November election,” West said.
Absentee ballot applications must be completed and submitted to the Elections Office before absentee ballots are distributed. Absentee ballots will not be distributed until October 8.
“September 17th is National Voter Registration Day and the largest voter registration drive in the country,” West said. “If you read information about it and decide to update your voter registration due to an address or name change, you can visit our website or the Secretary of State’s website. If you have never been registered to vote in the state of Ohio and plan to vote on November 5th, you must come to the Board of Elections office to fill out your registration form.”
Voter information can be found online at the Muskingum County Board of Elections or Secretary of State website, where you can also verify that your registration information is listed correctly.
West also pointed out that political text messages, phone calls, letters and emails come from third parties not affiliated with the Election Board.
