DET relocates Stade FSRU due to excavation work

The state-owned German LNG terminal operator DET has temporarily relocated the 174,000 cbm FSRU Energos Force from the AVG pier in Stade due to dredging work in the area..

From August 7, Niedersachsen Ports will carry out planned dredging work at the pier for liquefied petroleum gases (AVG) in the port of Stade-Bützfleth, according to a statement from the DET.

As a result, the Energos Force will cast off and temporarily take up a waiting position on the Outer Elbe, DET said.

After completion of the work, the ship will return to its berth in the Elbe port and continue to be prepared for commissioning, which is planned for the second half of the year, the DET said.

“These measures are repeated routinely in the port, as the berths in the port must have a certain depth so that the ships do not touch the bottom and remain mobile even at low tide. The depth of the troughs depends on the size of the ships using the berth,” says DET.

In March, the FSRU, built in 2021 and owned by Apollos Energos Infrastructure, arrived at the AVG berth in Stade.

The FSRU is ready for commissioning, but “there is still some work to be done and the documentation we need for safe operation needs to be prepared,” DET LNG Prime said in June.

Once the almost 300-meter-long ship is in operation, it will feed up to five billion cubic meters of gas into the German gas network every year.

Four FSRU terminals

After the commissioning of the Brunsbüttel and Wilhelmshaven 1 terminals, this is the third of four FSRU-based LNG terminals of DET.

DET had previously announced that commissioning of its second terminal in Wilhelmshaven would begin in the second half of this year.

The company also announced on Wednesday that it has received a total of 100 LNG cargoes at its two FSRU-based LNG terminals in Wilhelmshaven and Brunsbüttel since January 2023.
