Officers arrested a 33-year-old man accused of “indiscriminately” firing a gun near Evergreen State College early Wednesday morning.

According to a Facebook post from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses called 911 to report the shooter in the 1700 block of Evergreen Parkway Northwest.

Deputies and Evergreen police arrived at the scene and reportedly found the man in a car surrounded by bullet casings. The post states that deputies conducted a “high-risk stop” and the man was arrested “without the use of deadly force.”

Using a search warrant, officers seized a “.40 caliber pistol and ammunition” in the car, the post said. They also found about 60 shell casings and two public signs in the area that had been shot at.

Thurston County jail records show the man was arrested around 5 a.m. near the intersection of 17th Avenue Northwest and Evergreen Parkway.

Officers arrested the man on suspicion of drive-by shooting, reckless endangerment, pointing or discharging a firearm, and third-degree malicious damage to property.

The sheriff’s office post does not indicate what motive the man might have had or what condition he was in.
