Delusional social media post ages terribly for released Patriots wideout

Jalen Reagor seems to have a better self-perception than the New England Patriots.

The Patriots announced Tuesday that they have released the wide receiver, who has been with the team for five years, from the practice squad. Reagor did not make the team’s original 53-man roster after training camp and was not selected for New England’s first two games.

Reagor’s release was announced hours after he posted a meme on social media suggesting he was better off than the situation he was in.

Could Reagor’s input have ultimately led to the release? Given the timing, it’s a fair question.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Reagor 21st overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, but he failed to live up to expectations in the first round. Reagor joined the Patriots in 2023 after playing two seasons in Philadelphia and one with the Minnesota Vikings. He caught seven passes for 138 yards in 11 games and was used primarily on special teams.

The Patriots have Ja’Lynn Polk, DeMario Douglas, KJ Osborn, Tyquan Thornton, Javon Baker and Kayshon Boutte on their 53-man roster. Kendrick Bourne is on New England’s PUP (physically unable to perform) list and is eligible to return after Week 4.
