Deleted scene from Deadpool & Wolverine confirms Gambit survives

(This story contains spoilers for Deadpool and Wolverine.)

Gambit lives!

Ryan Reynolds confirmed in a Deadpool and Wolverine deleted scene and posted on his social media that Channing Tatum’s Gambit survives the battle in the void alongside Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, and Dafne Keen’s Laura/X-23.

As the credits rolled, it was still unclear if any of the characters who teamed up to defeat Cassandra Nova’s (Emma Corrin) henchmen had survived the fight. But at least Tatum’s now iconic and meme-heavy version of Gambit made it out alive.

Although the video doesn’t give much away, the figure is seen from behind, walking on the ground between a few henchmen before turning around as the video pans to his face, and he’s grinning.

There may not be any other Gambit projects in the works right now, but the fact that he made it out of Deadpool 3 Being alive means he could return for a standalone film in the future or appear in another film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Tatum was set to play the Cajun mutant in a standalone film, but it was canceled after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox.

In an Instagram post from the weekend Deadpool and Wolverine in the cinemas, the Flash twice The star praised Reynolds for allowing him to bring Gambit to life when he thought he had lost him forever.

“(Reynolds) fought for me and Gambit. I’ll probably owe him forever. Because I’m not sure how I could ever do anything that could match what that meant to me,” Tatum wrote. “Love you buddy. So does Shawn Levy. Truly such a brilliant creator on every single level. Everything happens for a reason. I’m so grateful to be in this film. In my opinion, it’s a masterpiece. And just pure, badass joy. I was literally screaming in the theater. LFG!!”

A week later, Reynolds continued the love affair, praising Tatum for his portrayal of the superhero in the record-breaking box office hit.

“Gambit is a guy Chan was born to be,” Free guy star wrote, “His story is similar to mine, because he’s spent a decade bringing the most comic-accurate version of Gambit to the screen. Remy LeBeau is embedded in his soul and needs to come out and deal with it. And Gambit has found his author in Chan. He’s one of the coolest, smartest characters in comics and still largely unexplored. I want more – and from what I saw in the theater, you will too. Having the chance to say goodbye to some of these heroes is just as important as having new characters to root for… and rooting for Gambit is easy. Rooting for Chan is even easier. He’s one of the greatest, hardest-working, kindest people in this entire industry.”
