Delaware County high school sports results from August 19-24.

Below are highlights and results from last week’s Delaware County sporting events that Ball State Daily News staff was unable to attend. Please send stats to [email protected], [email protected] or [email protected] to ensure your team is featured.

Monday (19 August)

Yorktown’s volleyball team opened its season at home against Westfield. The Tigers defeated the Shamrocks 3-0. Yorktown senior Ariane Wright was the Green-Black’s best player with 11 kills.

Daleville Volleyball began its season on the road against Tri, defeating the Titans 3-0. Broncos senior Trishell Johnson led the Black and Gold with seventeen kills.

Cowan volleyball traveled to Winchester for the season opener, but lost in three sets. The Blackhawks had three players at the same level with two kills each: sophomore Savannah Hall, third-grader Keira Drew and senior Allie Trimble.

The Wapahani women’s golfers competed against Delta in a county match and the Raiders defeated the Eagles 189-209. The red and whites were led by Kenzie Brannon, who shot a 44.

Tuesday (20 August)

Muncie Central volleyball defeated Alexandria-Monroe in five sets on the road in the season opener. Bearcats sophomore Kendall Kahle and junior Kadence Smith each had nine kills for the purple and black.

The Yorktown girls soccer team traveled to face Blackford. The Tigers defeated the Bruins 1-0. No statistics could be found.

The Yorktown boys soccer team opened its season at home against Hamilton Heights. The Tigers lost their opening game 5-2. No statistics could be found.

The Muncie Central boys soccer team began its season on the road against Jay County. The Bearcats lost their season opener 1-0. No statistics could be found.

Muncie Central’s girls soccer team hosted Knightstown and lost the game 5-0. No statistics could be found.

Delta’s boys soccer team defeated Daleville 11-1 in its season opener. The Eagles’ sophomore Cooper Pierce and senior Keith Anieto led the blue and gold with three goals each. The Broncos’ sophomore Jeffrey Hamilton scored the lone goal for Daleville.

The Wapahani girls soccer team traveled to Elwood and defeated the Panthers 10-1. No statistics could be found.

Delta’s girls golf team competed against Daleville at Albany Golf Club, where the Eagles scored 217 points as a team, ending in a three-way tie for medalists between Avery Stinson, Olivia Chalfant and Josey Morris.

Wednesday (21 August)

Muncie Central’s volleyball team traveled to Elwood and defeated the Panthers 3-0. Bearcat sophomore Kendall Kahle had 12 kills to lead the offense.

The Wes-Del volleyball team played away against Blue River-Valley and lost in three sets. Warriors senior Amelia Hudson-Roberts had 12 kills to lead the Maroon and Black.

The Yorktown girls soccer team hosted Anderson and improved their record to 2-1 with a 9-0 win over the Indians. No statistics could be found.

The Yorktown girls golf team took on Muncie Central at Hickory Hills and posted a season-best 195 strokes. Tigers freshman Lucy Melton led the way for the green-and-whites with 44 strokes.

Delta’s golfers traveled to Tri-County Golf Club to compete against Mount Vernon and Shenandoah. The Eagles tied for second place with a team score of 191. Avery Stinson won the medal with 41 points.

Thursday (22 August)

The Yorktown volleyball team traveled to Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory for its second contest of the week and defeated the Braves 3-0. Tigers senior Shanese Williams had 13 kills for Yorktown in the win.

Delta Volleyball hosted Jay County in the Eagles’ second game of the season. The blue and gold team defeated the Patriots 3-0. Delta senior Addie Phillippe was the Eagles’ best player with 19 kills.

Wapahani Volleyball went away against Lapel and defeated the Bulldogs 3-0. Raiders senior Sophia Beeson was able to score sixteen kills for the red and white team.

Cowan Volleyball traveled to face the Tri Titans. The Blackhawks lost in four sets and junior Keira Drew scored 11 kills for the Black and Yellows.

The Muncie Burris volleyball team began its season with an away game against Monroe Central. The Owls defeated the Golden Bears 3-0. No statistics could be found.

The Yorktown boys soccer team traveled to New Palestine for a doubleheader against the Dragons. The Tigers lost both games 0-1. No statistics could be found.

The Delta boys soccer team traveled to Blackford and defeated the Bruins 10-0. Delta junior Maddox Huffman scored four goals to lead the Eagles.

The Muncie Central girls soccer team hosted district rival Wapahani in its second home game of the week. The Bearcats narrowly defeated the Raiders 6-5. Muncie Central junior Naomi Galan scored all six goals for the purple and white.

Muncie Central’s boys soccer team defeated Wapahani 8-1 at home. No statistics could be found.

Delta’s girls soccer team began its season with a 2-1 home loss to Eastbrook. Eagles junior Jordan Bunch scored the only goal for Delta.

The Daleville boys soccer team lost to the Eastern Comets on the road during the young season, conceding a goal. No statistics could be found.

Muncie Burris began their season against the Richmond Red Devils and ended in a 1-1 tie. No statistics could be found.

Wapahani golfers finished a two-day event at Cardinal Hills with a win over Daleville, 182-218. The Raiders matched the exact team score they had on the first day of the event, and Wapahani senior Delaney Dodd also matched her score of 40.

Friday (23 August)

Daleville Volleyball played its third consecutive away game against Cowan to open the season. The Broncos won 3-1 in four sets. Daleville was led by senior Trishell Johnson with 23 kills, while Blackhawks senior Allie Trimble scored eight kills for the Black and Yellows.

Saturday (24 August)

The Taylor University Trojan Cross-Country Opener featured runners from Daleville, Muncie Central, Delta and Wapahani. The top runners from each school in the boys division were Caleb Aber of Wapahani, who finished fourth (16:41.9), Peyton Engle of Delta, who finished 23rd (18:07.3), Reggie Reynolds of Muncie Central, who finished 35th (18:29.9) and Noah Colvin of Daleville, who finished 52nd (19:02.3). The Wapahani boys won the meet as a team with three runners in the top 20.

In the girls’ race, AnnMarie Gibson of Wapahani took ninth place (20:53.6), Kynlie Keffer of Daleville took 17th place (21:44.2), Addison Shue of Delta took 27th place (22:54.6) and Lily Clark of Muncie Central took 50th place (24:33).

Wapahani’s women’s golfers played in the Monroe Central Invite, along with Delta and Yorktown. The Tigers finished third overall, with junior Grace Turner taking first place individually with a career-low 83. The Raiders finished fourth overall, with junior Kenzie Brannon taking second place individually with an 85.

Yorktown Volleyball played a doubleheader with the first game against the Bellmont Braves and the second against the Avon Orioles. The Tigers defeated the Braves in the first game in five sets. The Green-Blacks then defeated the Orioles in four sets 3-1. No statistics could be found.

Muncie Central volleyball played against Maconaquah, Kokomo, Richmond and South Bend Riley in a four-game tournament. The Bearcats lost all three of their first games 2-0, but defeated South Bend Riley 2-0 in the final game.

Muncie Central’s boys soccer team hosted conference opponent Kokomo and lost 6-1. No statistics could be found.

The Delta girls soccer team traveled to Mississinewa and met in the second game of the

Eagles season. The blue and gold team won 3-1. No statistics could be found.

The Muncie Burris girls soccer team opened its 2024 season against Bethesda Christian. The Owls lost their season opener 8-1. No statistics could be found.
