Deadpool and Wolverine’s lesson for Marvel should fix my biggest disappointment with the MCU TV show

Summary

  • The success of Deadpool and Wolverine could lead to more mature MCU projects like the second season of Moon Knight.
  • Moon Knight Season 2 could potentially be more violent and delve deeper into darker themes.
  • An increase in R-rated MCU projects offers the possibility that Moon Knight Season 2 will hew more closely to the hero’s comic book stories.

I find Deadpool and Wolverine The Marvel Cinematic Universe offers the perfect lesson to fix my main problem with Moon Knight in a possible second season of the series. Deadpool and Wolverine is one of the most successful superhero films in historywhich is universally popular and recently became the highest grossing R-rated film of all time. That is quite a mark to Deadpool and Wolverine It is also the first MCU film to be rated R. Given its success Deadpool and WolverineThe ending of could lead to sequels and the film could also influence other MCU projects.

One of the projects I hope Deadpool and WolverineThe success may impact Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight series. Since the show premiered in 2022, there have been very few updates on Moon Knight Season 2. However, a recent announcement has made me more confident that Marvel has not forgotten the hero. Moon Knight will appear in Season 3 of What If…?, and I believe that if his appearance in the animated series is well received, Marvel could start developing Moon Knight Season 2. That means there has to be a big change.

I am now convinced that after the MCU future confirmation, it is more likely that there will be a second season of Moon Knight

After two years of silence, Moon Knight’s MCU return was confirmed and that convinced me that the project could lead to a Moon Knight season 2.

I was disappointed by Moon Knight’s action

The show promised brutal action

Before the show was released, Disney+’s Moon Knight was designed to be darker and more brutal than the usual MCU series. That’s what excited me about the series, because I think the character works because of his darkness in the comics. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has even made big Moon Knight promises. The executive claimed that the series would mark a change in tone from what the MCU usually does, saying: “He’s brutal… That’s something else. That’s Moon Knight.“ Unfortunately, I don’t think Moon Knight lived up to that expectation.

The series switched to the Jake Lockley alter of the character doing all the killing and returned to Steven Grant or Marc Spector when the fight was over, which was a major problem of the finale.

I liked the series and would like to see it again, but the show was never as dark as Netflix’s Defenders Saga I did, and based on Feige’s comments, I expected more in that direction. Moon Knight had some cool and brutal fight scenes, but when the show could fully focus on those brutal moments, Marvel used a terrible plot device. The series switched to the Jake Lockley alter ego of the character killing everyone and went back to Steven Grant or Marc Spector when the fight was over, which was a major problem of the finale.

I’m looking forward to more R-rated MCU projects after Deadpool and Wolverine

The film can inspire more mature MCU projects

Moon KnightThe rating of ultimately limited how much Marvel could do with the show. That’s why projects like Disney’s echothe first TV-MA series from Marvel Studios, and Deadpool and Wolverinethe first MCU film with an R rating, thrilled me Moon Knight Season 2. In 2022, Marvel had no parameter to see if the production Moon Knight TV-MA would be well received by audiences as far as the MCU is concerned. However, now, with the studio’s first R-rated film, which is already the highest-grossing R-rated film of all timedefeats DC’s joker for the crown.

echo was also quite well received and I think the problems of the series could have been improved with more episodes to properly develop the story and characters. Moon Knight Season 2 will be TV-MA – with more than 6 episodes – and could see the ideal version of Oscar Isaac’s Marvel character come to the big screen. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Feige hinted that there could be more R-rated projects in the MCU whether the rating is appropriate for the character and fits the DNA of the respective hero or villain.

A TV-MA Moon Knight Season 2 would be perfect

It would fit in the direction the Marvel series is going

If Moon Knight Season 2 finally takes place, then with the end of season 1 a perfect transition to TV-MA is already prepared. The season ended with the appearance of Jake Lockley and killed Ethan Hawke’s Arthur Harrow in cold blood. The character did this on Khonshu’s orders, something Marc Spector and Steven Grant know nothing about. Seeing how Moon Knight In season 1, there was an emphasis on showing that Jake was the character’s most violent alter ego. In season 2, there is more focus on him and it should get pretty bloody.

I would love to see Oscar Isaac in this darker version of the series. The actor is one of Hollywood’s best right now and it would be fantastic to see him portray three very different versions of the same character, with more scope to delve into more mature elements. Moon Knight Season 2 could not only be more violent than Season 1, but also more tragicthat delves deep into the subject matter. I think this could be one of Marvel’s best shows, and I hope Deadpool and WolverineThe success leads to a TV-MA Moon Knight Season 2.
